Tom Holland is having quite the summer!

On Wednesday, the “Spider-Man” star’s nonalcoholic beer brand, BERO, announced that it’s introducing its signature Kingston Golden Pils glass bottle to consumers nationwide for the first time. The move appears to be a concerted push into the bar and restaurant markets, which have long been dominated (in the United States, at least) by Athletic, the world’s largest dedicated nonalcoholic brewery.

“Before BERO launched — before the artwork for our cans was even finalized — we envisioned the brand in a glass bottle,” John Herman, Co-Founder and CEO of BERO, said in a news release. “There’s something distinct about the experience of glass: how it feels in your hand, how it pours, and even how refreshing the beer feels to drink.”

The glass bottles are now available online at $20 per six-pack and can also be found at select restaurants and bars nationwide and throughout the United Kingdom.

When BERO hit the market in late 2024, it kicked off with an Edge Hill Hazy IPA, a Noon Wheat and its Kingston Golden Pils, all available exclusively in canned formats. We were particularly fond of its Noon Wheat, though the Pilsner was nothing to scoff at either. In our review, we complimented the beer for its crisp, malty flavor profile, led by hints of biscuits, sprinkled breadcrumbs and faintly sweet touches of pear and green apple.

Since then, the brand has expanded exponentially — faster than perhaps any other beverage maker in recent memory.

Holland joined forces with “Iron Man” alum Robert Downey Jr. for a limited-edition Coffee Draught, and later paid homage to his wife, Zendaya, with a quintet of BERO shandies that mixed nonalcoholic beer with various lemonade flavors. Both of the actor’s summer blockbusters have gotten the BERO treatment as well: A limited-time six-pack honored “The Odyssey” with images of the Trojan horse and a Greek warship, while a “Spider-Man” pilsner featured an image of the superhero dangling upside down from the top of the can.

The brand’s push into the glass bottle category feels like a different kind of gamble.

In a recent interview at the WSJ Global Food Forum, Athletic Brewing CEO Bill Shufelt claimed that his company currently holds an 18% share of NA beer in the country, and an impressive 38% share of on-premise sales in bars and restaurants. On-premise sales are a particularly lucrative angle for nonalcoholic beer brands, as many bars and restaurants still do not offer zero-proof beers on tap.

By signaling its availability in on-premise markets, BERO appears to be cementing itself as a formidable competitor.

Tom Holland’s nonalcoholic beer brand is back with yet another limited-edition release, and this time, it’s paying homage to the role that transformed him into a household name.

On Wednesday, BERO commemorated the upcoming release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” with a six-pack featuring custom webslinging artwork. The brand’s Kingston Golden Pils has been reimagined with an upside-down label that shows Spider-Man dangling from the top of the can. Along the side of the pack’s green and gold box, you’ll find the tagline “Your Friendly Neighborhood Non-Alcoholic Beer.”

It doesn’t look like it’ll be too hard to score a can, though some will be harder to find than others. The beer will be available at select theaters including Alamo Drafthouse and Studio Movie Grill nationwide while supplies last, and fans can grab a six-pack online for $20 each. According to BERO, random cartons purchased through the brand’s website will be autographed by Holland. There’s no word on how many, with the brand putting it simply: “No guarantees, but good odds.”

“Because the brand was founded by Tom, this collaboration feels incredibly authentic from the inside out,” John Herman, CEO of BERO, said in a news release. “It’s a chance to honor an iconic chapter in his journey while inviting both longtime fans and new consumers to discover BERO through an experience that’s rooted in entertainment, community and great beer.”

BERO hit the ground running in early 2025 with a trio of nonalcoholic beers inspired by Holland’s well-documented sobriety journey. Behind the scenes, the brand is helmed by chief brewmaster Grant Wood, an alum of Boston Beer Company’s Sam Adams and Angry Orchard.

Holland fans have had their pick of the litter from a flurry of limited-edition releases tying into his on-screen and off-screen personas. Earlier this month, the brand released a “The Odyssey“-themed beer pack decked out with custom artwork of the Trojan horse, the six-headed Scylla and a penteconter warship. Previous drops included a lineup of shandies inspired by Zendaya and a Coffee Draught released in collaboration with fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe star Robert Downey Jr.

Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated “The Odyssey” is touching down in theaters nationwide in a matter of days, and one of the movie’s many, many high-profile stars is releasing a brew to commemorate the sword-and-sandals epic.

On Tuesday, “Spider-Man” star Tom Holland unveiled a collectible six-pack that reimagines the film through the lens of his non-alcoholic beer brand, BERO. The pack features the brand’s Noon Wheat flavor in a custom, Odyssey-themed box, inside of which you’ll find three bespoke can designs. One features an image of the Trojan horse, another the many-headed Hydra and the last a penteconter, the ship that Odysseus and co. use to sail the high seas of ancient Greece.

The six-pack is now available through the BERO website at a suggested retail price of $20. That’s six dollars more than a standard Noon Wheat pack, which just so happens to be our favorite offering from the brand we’ve tried so far.

BERO first hit the market in 2025 with Noon Wheat, Edge Hill Hazy IPA and Kingston Golden Pils varieties. Parting ways with the celebrity booze trend, the brand was imagined as a tribute to Holland himself, who has now been sober for four years and counting. On the production side, BERO is overseen by Grant Wood, an alum of Boston Beer Company’s Sam Adams and Angry Orchard, as its chief brewmaster.

In the over year and a half since, the brand has expanded fast. Holland joined forces with fellow MCU star Robert Downey Jr. for a non-alcoholic Coffee Draught that looked like a Guinness and tasted like dark chocolate dunked in soy sauce (a little odd, but we thoroughly enjoyed it). Last month, the brand expanded its collection with a quartet of shandies inspired by Zendaya, who Holland says has never been a beer drinker. We were fond of that collection as well, with the Elderflower and Grapefruit flavors being our personal favorites.

“Spider-Man” star Tom Holland is back in the headlines with a quartet of shandy flavors released through his non-alcoholic beer brand, BERO.

On Monday (which, incidentally, happens to be Holland’s 30th birthday), the brand unveiled a lineup of zero-proof shandies in Lemon Lime, Pink Grapefruit, Elderflower and Blackberry Yuzu varieties. While a standard shandy typically uses a 50/50 mix of lemonade and beer, BERO has opted for a 70/30 ratio that leans harder into the fruit side of the equation. All make use of the brand’s Kingston Golden Pils, our second favorite in the BERO lineup behind its exemplary Noon Wheat.

According to Holland, the limited-edition release was imagined as something more than a tribute to British shandy culture. The actor-turned-entrepreneur says that he was inspired by his wife, Zendaya, who acted as an unofficial muse for the four new flavors.

“To be honest, I created the BERO Shandy for Z. She’s never been a beer drinker, so I wanted to bring something new to the table that she could enjoy,” Holland said in a news release. “I’ve always loved shandies, so exploring that style with BERO felt like the perfect next step.”

So what might fans expect when the shandies roll out nationwide on June 8?

The brand kindly sent us a preview of the upcoming release, packaged in slender, 12-ounce cans that feel more hard seltzer than beer. Having reviewed the brand’s flagship trio of NA beers (great stuff!) and its one-off Coffee Draught created in collaboration with Robert Downey Jr. (odd but totally enjoyable), we went in with high hopes.

BERO Shandy Review

Tom Holland

Daybreak Shandy

Kicking off the collection is the brand’s Lemon-Lime shandy. Poured into a glass, it fizzes up with a picture-perfect creamy beer head that tastes exactly like a lemon creamsicle. Yum! None-too-sweet hints of lemon, lime and vanilla dominate the flavor profile here, paired with a nice undercurrent of maltiness from the Golden Pils. What it lacks in sourness, it makes up for in sessionability.

Golden Hour Shandy

Schöfferhofer is by far the world’s most famous grapefruit shandy, and BERO’s NA twist on the concept wisely sticks to those basics. Which is to say: If you don’t enjoy the tart, bittersweet bite of fresh grapefruit juice, there’s still plenty to like here. Mellow flavors of grapefruit and peach shine alongside a recognizable punch of malt breadiness (think crackers and lightly sweetened honey biscuits). Toss this one in the fridge and enjoy it all day long.

Sunset Shandy

Elderflower liqueur is firmly in the zeitgeist at bars across the country, as are Lychee Martinis. The Sunset Shandy feels like a pointed riff on both. The can cracks open with immediately recognizable flavors of white grape, lavender and lychee gummy candies (brand name Kasugai, if you feel like getting specific). Though there’s pretty much no malt flavor to be found, this turned out to be my favorite of the bunch. Tastes like a fun fruit soda you might find on the shelf at a Japanese grocery store.

Midnight Shandy

Once again, the Japanese soda influence is strong — though I can’t say that blackberry or yuzu are the first flavors that come to mind. Instead, there’s a buoyant, almost chewy hint of grape jelly, alongside a sweet and creamy note reminiscent of Melona Honeydew Melon popsicles. The combo is a little befuddling, especially since the malt undercurrent is all but lost at this point. If you remove the shandy expectations, however, it’s pretty tasty stuff, and feels very much in tune with everything that the Sunset flavor had in mind.

Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr.’s Non-Alcoholic Coffee Beer Tastes Just as Unusual as It Sounds https://thedailypour.com/no-low-alcohol/na-beer/tom-holland-robert-downey-jr-bero-coffee-beer/ https://thedailypour.com/no-low-alcohol/na-beer/tom-holland-robert-downey-jr-bero-coffee-beer/#respond Tue, 07 Oct 2025 13:14:16 +0000 https://thedailypour.com/?p=127888 Tom Holland

Nearly a decade after meeting on-screen in “Captain America: Civil War,” Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland are joining their real-world business ventures for a beverage that feels as quintessentially 2025 as Dubai chocolate bars and Labubu dolls.

On Monday, the duo unveiled a pair of limited-edition products that combine BERO, Holland’s non-alcoholic beer brand, with happy, Downey’s 100% Arabica coffee company. Fans of the past and present superheroes can pick which vibe they’d like to lean into. For its part, BERO has debuted a stout-style Coffee Draught that clocks in at a slim 0.36% ABV, while happy is offering an Eternal Hoptimist ground coffee blend that combines beans from Colombia and Brazil.

The products are now available through the brand’s respective websites and can be picked up in person at Target locations nationwide.

Whether or not the brands say it outright, it’s fair to say that the collab leans hard on the Marvel Cinematic Universe connection. But there’s a personal angle that warrants mention as well. Both Holland and Downey Jr. have had well-documented struggles with sobriety throughout their careers, turning their non-alcoholic beer into a sort of victory lap and self-discovery journey bundled into one.

“This is the kind of collaboration you can only do with a friend,” Holland shared in a news release. “Robert knows coffee better than anyone, and we wanted to bring that same level of care to a beer that celebrates what both our brands stand for: quality, craft, and a premium experience in every sip.”

We were eager to see what the A-listers had in store. BERO is, for our money, one of the best NA beers currently available on the market. The brand’s Noon Wheat delivers a delicious combo of orange, lemon and grapefruit flavor, while its Golden Pilsner dials up the malty goodness with plenty of biscuit and green apple notes. Though Holland finds himself in increasingly tough competition against his contemporaries (John Mulaney, Charlie Sheen and Dax Shepard have all backed zero-proof beers over the past year), his brand has held strong thanks to a combination of savvy marketing and preeminent starpower.

Whether or not that starpower could justify a slim-proof coffee draught — an oddball combo, and likely the first of its kind — was yet to be seen. We cracked open a can to investigate for ourselves.

Bero Coffee Draught Taste TestTom Holland

Poured into a glass, the beer fizzes up with that signature creamy head found in many of the most iconic stouts. We’re tempted to say it looks like Guinness, though Coca-Cola might be the better comparison. The bubble density dissipates after a few seconds, leaving behind a thin layer of froth that sticks to the upper lip after every sip.

Hints of coffee grounds, malt and dark chocolate dominate the aroma. Side by side with the carbonation, there’s something about the combo reminiscent of soy sauce. Not salty, per se, but as if there’s an indescribable umami character hiding just beneath the surface. It’s a note that beer fans have observed in countless other stouts, and it’s present here in full force.

The palate is where everything begins to come together. Flavors of cocoa, walnuts, malt and orange zest immediately place this as a dark beer. And a decent one at that. BERO has always done a great job at imitating the hoppy, bittersweet bite of alcohol, and the vibes at play within the brand’s Coffee Draught absolutely live up to the high bar. There are some faint caramel notes, a whisper of wheat and a subdued effervesence that all pick up on the finish. If we didn’t know any better, we’d guess it was canned at no less than 4% ABV.

Downey Jr.’s contribution feels understated by comparison. Yes, the Arabica is there, but not enough to tip the scale into morning cup of joe territory. Instead, you get subtle floral and fruit vibes by way of dried berries, orange blossom and lingering acidity. Flavors right at home within the stout beer vocabulary. It’s an effective ratio, paying homage to coffee rather than incorporating it front and center. The product description claims this only contains 5 milligrams of caffeine, and it’s easy to imagine that the happy was poured in with a light touch.

If you told us 10 years ago that Spider-Man and Iron Man were collaborating on a non-alcoholic, stout-style coffee draught, we’d probably respond: Consult a dictionary; those words make zero sense lumped into the same sentence. Oh, how the industry has changed over the past decade.

Though the beer is sure to raise its fair share of eyebrows among even the most die-hard of Marvel, Holland and Downey Jr. fans, it’s worth a try if you’re interested in the Wild West that is the non-alcoholic drinks space. The following 10 non-alcoholic beverages are nothing short of delicious, and best of all? You can enjoy them without a hangover the next day.

Non is a zero-proof wine-inspired brand for all the oenophiles and gourmands out there. With a perfectly sweet and salty profile, driven by flavors of raspberries kissed with an ocean breeze, this sparkling beverage ends on a savory note and has an impressive amount of tannic structure, making it an intriguing pour.

Non 1 Salted Raspberry & Chamomile is made from a 47-hour cold steep of freeze-dried Tasmanian raspberries. The zero-proof beverage brand claims this process removes the majority of water inside the fruit, yielding more extraction and improved flavor.

Non additionally implements salt from the Murray River and adds a bit of Verjus from Australian Semillon Grapes, which are typically used in the production of white Bordeaux. For about $30, you can pick up a bottle from the brand’s website. Throw in a charcuterie plate to do Dry January in style!

Dry January can be a tough month for some, particularly for those partial to spirit-forward cocktails like Old Fashioneds, Manhattans or Sazeracs. For Bitter for Worse Smoky No. 56 is a zero-proof attempt to capture what we like to call a good old-fashioned “Grandpa drink.”

This creative, booze-free, smoky sipper is a mishmash of distinctive ingredients, like organic maple syrup, organic apple cider vinegar, organic fig concentrate, organic sweet orange peel, organic lapsang souchong black tea, sea salt and spices, coupled with organic black tea, gentian root, dandelion root and bitter orange peel. A little vanilla adds a bit of sweetness.

Bero is a zero-proof beer brand backed by none other than “Spider-Man” actor Tom Holland. The brand serendipitously dropped during Sober October 2024, and the actor has been very open about his multi-year journey with sobriety.

Holland shared during an interview that he completed Dry January in 2022 and found it surprisingly hard:

“I just sort of said to myself, like, ‘Why? Why am I enslaved to this drink? Why am I so obsessed with the idea of having this drink?”

Bero’s Noon Wheat is deliciously drinkable, with plenty of citrus fruits and balanced sweetness. There’s just a slight kiss of malt, adding depth to this delightful zero-proof beer. Expect to spend $16 on a 6-pack.

BERO Review: Tom Holland’s Nonalcoholic Beer Brand Doubles Down on Sobriety to Spectacular Effect https://thedailypour.com/no-low-alcohol/bero-review-tom-holland-nonalc-beer/ https://thedailypour.com/no-low-alcohol/bero-review-tom-holland-nonalc-beer/#respond Fri, 10 Jan 2025 16:56:04 +0000 https://bottleraiders.com/?p=96834 Tom Holland

(Photo: BERO)

Hollywood star, sobriety advocate and speculated fiancé Tom Holland surprised fans in October with the unveiling of BERO, a nonalcoholic beer brand that sports all the fixings of a good-old-fashioned celebrity venture. The marketing campaign went off without a hitch, Holland made a few appearances on the podcast circuit and distribution began rolling out slowly but surely. As of this week, all three varieties of BERO — Noon Wheat, Edge Hill Hazy IPA and Kingston Golden Pils — are now available at Target locations nationwide at $11.99 per six-pack.

Pricier than a Budweiser, cheaper than your locally brewed favorite.

Though there aren’t many celebrity-backed nonalcoholic beers on the market (with the notable exception of Walter Hayes’ “Fancy Like” American pale ale), BERO is up against tough competition. The truth is, nonalcoholic beer is the only zero-proof category that’s consistently cranked out fantastic products over the past couple of years. Unlike nonalcoholic spirits, often watery, off-puttingly flavored and suspiciously overpriced, N/A beer has provided some delicious sippers that can rival their boozy contemporaries. Industry leaders include Athletic Brewing, Brawus and Guinness 0.0.

Anticipating this challenge, BERO has a trick up its sleeve. The brand has recruited Grant Wood, an alum of Boston Beer Company’s Sam Adams and Angry Orchard, as its chief brewmaster. It’s worth noting that Samuel Adams Just The Haze, the brand’s N/A offering that debuted in 2021, is currently the second-best-ranked low-alcohol beer on Beer Advocate.

And into the fray enters BERO. Each flavor is canned a notch below 0.5% ABV, contains between 70-90 calories, around 15 grams of carbs and exactly 6 grams of sugar. Packaging takes a minimalist approach with a splotch of gold and a wreathed fish logo consuming the top half of the can. Each beer proudly announces in cursive lettering: “Born in London, crafted in America, enjoyed worldwide.”

Let’s see if the “Spider-Man” star can assemble another blockbuster hit.

3. Edge Hill Hazy IPA

Tom Holland

Description, per the brand: “Juicy New England style, tropical and refreshing, smooth and hop-forward.”

Any reservations we had about authenticity were immediately dispelled. Poured into a tall glass, the beer foams up with all the delectable frothiness you’d find on tap at your local pub. The color? Spot on. Aroma? Hoppy and inviting.

So far as flavor, however, this was surprisingly the least complex of the bunch. Not to say it was unappetizing in the slightest; the palate has a lush quality loaded with hints of pine, lime and tangerine. It all goes down quite nicely, but my first thought certainly wasn’t IPA. It missed that so-called “dank” quality that many of the category’s best offerings swagger around with, a quality earned in part by IPA’s unusually high ABV compared to other beers. BERO’s twist on the concept offers enough hops to rival the effect, but it doesn’t go full throttle. All of that said, these are the nitpicks of a habitual IPA drinker. This is still one of the better N/A beers I’ve tasted.

2. Kingston Golden Pils

Tom Holland

Description, per the brand: “A fresh take on the bright and timeless crisp European pils.”

The malted barley influence is noticeable right from the first whiff. European pilsners often hold a reputation as one of the weaker flavored beers; the aroma on BERO’s immediately signaled that was not going to be the case.

Tons of malty goodness on the palate, as if biscuits, breadcrumbs and croutons had been crumbled right into the can. Behind it all is an earthy character with oh-so-subtle notes of pear and green apple that bring a light touch of sweetness. Best of all, and perhaps the highest compliment that could ever be paid to an N/A beer, the alcohol isn’t missed in the slightest. Its crisp quality has just enough bite to fool you into thinking this might hover around 4% or 5% ABV. Great stuff that I’d definitely buy again.

No. 1 – Noon Wheat

Tom Holland

Description, per the brand: “Cloudy and classic, perfect citrus finish, bright and session-able.”

Let’s start with our only criticism. Though the description on the side of the can mentions only a “citrus finish,” we’d argue that citrus dominates every aspect of this buoyant and refreshing beer. Hints of orange, lemon and grapefruit are the star of the show, tingling the palate with a welcome sweetness that stops just shy of anything saccharine. After a few sips, you’ll taste a tinge of that malt character found in the Golden Pils alongside a sour finish that feels more citrus rind than citrus juice.

Hard to tell if the flavor was achieved with citrusy hops or the inclusion of “other natural flavors” spotted on the ingredients list. Either way, the result is wonderfully sippable. My only regret is that I had to drink this in the depths of winter, and not on a cool summery night by the picnic blanket.
